APRL 2011 Successes
- Since
January, we have convinced 13 more restaurants to remove foie gras in
California.
- A regular seal harasser was
cited for violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act when our staff at Casa Beach reported him with video to federal authorities.
- San Diego super-activist Judy Ki
has helped get legislation introduced to ban shark fin sales statewide in CA--write to your legislators to
support!
- We have reached thousands with outreach at the Multicultural Festival, the Heritage Day Festival, San Diego High School and Garfield High
School.

How You Can Help In March
The week of March 7th, we will be leafleting with Vegan Outreach at colleges in San
Diego. This month, we will also be tabling at the St. Patrick’s Festival, Indiefest, and two locations for International Meatout (see below). To get involved in our upcoming events click here. We also need volunteers to help in the office on a
regular basis with phone calls, data entry, research, button making, mailings, etc. Email us if you can volunteer in the office.
March is International Meatout!
Join activists all over the world and in all 50 states to ask people to kick the meat habit! APRL will have two Meatout events in San Diego--one on
Saturday,
March 19th in North County and the other on Sunday, March 20th outside of People’s Organic Food Co-op in Ocean Beach. Click here to see all upcoming
events.
Animals in Escondido need your voice!
On March 2 at 4:30pm, the
Escondido City Council will be voting on a proposal to remove charreadas, which are small time rodeos filled with animal cruelty, from a piece of city owned property. Please contact the city council
to say you SUPPORT the action of the city council in removing the
rodeo.
In Memoriam - Dani Thumma:
We are saddened by the passing of Dani Thumma, a determined and passionate activist who made the plight of animals a
personal priority and encouraged others to do the same. We at APRL came to know Dani because of her tireless campaign against the cruelty of foie gras in her home state of Arizona.
She was a shining example of how one person can inspire
countless others to choose compassion. Her daughter Ashley Yarbrough told us, “My mom's heart knew no bounds and was filled with so much love and generosity. She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off
her back, a shoulder to lean on, and an open ear to listen any time of the day or night. From the second she watched 'Meet your Meat' she knew something had
to be done to defend the animals condemned to the slaughterhouses across the world.”
Our hearts go out to Dani’s husband Steve, her daughter Ashley, son Kyle, and all of their family and friends
during this difficult time. |
