Updates
  • APRL volunteers passed out over 5,000 pro-veg leaflets at festivals in April. Today a woman who took and read a leaflet told volunteers she was going vegetarian on the spot!
  • A number of restaurants and events, including a high profile dinner at the Four Seasons on Maui, have dropped foie gras after being contacted by APRL, resulting in international news this past month.
  • APRL helps pay for printing the roughly 30,000 leaflets super-activist Nikki Benoit passes out at colleges each month for Vegan Outreach. We are now defending her free speech rights in court!
  • We are monitoring the situation in Florida, Iowa and Minnesota, where legislators are attempting to criminalize taking photos of factory farms.
  • APRL hosted a fundraiser for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) that was attended by Elizabeth Kucinich last month. We will be working closely with PCRM to battle the Farm Bill subsidies that are coming up for renewal next year, which tend to promote unhealthy and inhumane animal-based foods.

Eat, Drink, Read!

APRL encourages you to attend a fundraiser for the San Diego Council on Literacy May 18. We learned that a contributing chef was planning on serving a foie gras dish, so we contacted the event organizers, who had the item removed! We encourage you to attend this fundraiser to thank them for this humane decision. Literacy is necessary for an educated and informed society, which helps us get our message out as well!

Stand Up for Seals

The San Diego Union Tribune ran a great editorial and cartoon poking fun at anti-seal agitators who harass the La Jolla seals, as reported by their news department. The SD Reader also ran a very apt cartoon. Please attend an upcoming City Council meeting, a rally, and a court hearing to support the seals! See our events page for more info.
